Mental health does not just happen in convenient places, like offices or perfectly stocked rooms. Sometimes, I need to meet kids where they are! This could be in the hallway, outside the PE room, or during lunch... having an iPad for me to load picture books, drawing activities, the Calm app, among other games/apps allows me to counsel wherever a child is in crisis. Instead of bringing an entire cart with me wherever I go (and whenever I know I'll need it), the iPad allows me to be available for students at any time.
Mental health on the move encourages students to use the social-emotional skills I teach them whenever they're needed. It eliminates the extra time that would be spent walking back to a counseling office, especially in front of other students when a child is in breakdown mode. It eliminates me always having to know which exact tools (books, coloring, calm down tools) to bring at all times. Plus, it encourages students to work with me, as they'll be so excited to use the technology!
This applies to SO many of ASCA's Mindsets and Behaviors, as technology is flexible enough that I can apply it to almost anything.
