As a veteran teacher I am being challenged to come up with ways to provide a different type of learning environment for my students due to the coronavirus pandemic. One way I can do this is to be sure students are safely distanced at all times during the school day. Typically, second graders gather closely to work throughout their day, however, with new State and CDC guidelines, we are being asked to safely work and interact with each other a bit differently.
Using these carpet squares around the room for independent work, and during "carpet time" when we gather more closely to work together, will give families, students, and myself the assurance that we are looking out for each other, while still engaging in a manner that is enjoyable, comfortable, and familiar for 2nd graders.
