Finding bilingual resources is always more of a challenge, and it has been a struggle to acquire texts in Spanish. My students love to read, but are unfortunately limited in choices when it comes to books in Spanish. It's important for them to see equal representation of English and Spanish choices when they are choosing a book.
The majority of my students read below grade level, so providing them with books that they will be excited to read is crucial to their success. Having more books available to them will allow them to strengthen their literacy skills while their love for reading grows.
The resources included in this project include books that vary in genre and level. Many of the books are popular chapter books that my students cannot seem to put down. Other books included in this project are equally as exciting, but more suitable for beginning readers. Also included in this project are books that I will be able to read aloud to the class. Read alouds are incredibly powerful for teaching metacognitive thinking, building community and fostering a love for reading. Some of these books include culturally relevant texts that my students will be able to relate to.
This project not only benefits students at school, but will allow them to further their learning at home. Students will be able to borrow books from our classroom library so they can read at home in Spanish with their loved ones.
