As students age, they lose their desire to read. I would like the ability to keep the love for reading alive, but at the same time, create knowledge and empathy about the struggles, challenges, and dreams of kids their age in different parts of the world. With your generous donation, I would love to buy a classroom set (approximately 35) of the book The Night Diary by Verra Hiranandani. During and after reading, I want students to ask the question, "what similarities and differences do I have with kids my age in other countries?" Hopefully, they will see more similarities than differences. Finally, we will engage in conversation, lessons, and community projects related to the information presented throughout this award winning book. The long-term plan is to grow empathy, compassion, and inspiration that will transpire into our world.
