My project is for seats and headphones. During the storm some schools lost many items that to some people are considered non necessary. However its the simple things in life that brings joy. My students love doing their computer work wearing earphones. It cancels out outside disturbances, and creates a small piece of tranquility. Many of my students have so much going on at home. They have been displaces or they are "couch surfers". they go from house to house to house as a family say with whomever will keep them.
When I work in small groups, my students can concentrate on the task at hand without hearing the hustle and bustle of the classroom during computer time. They can transcend the boundaries of their circumstances and feel more comfortable and confident to complete their assignments.
Also during choice time many of them use the computer games to escape realities of home. Briefly their mind can go back to being children without the responsibility of thinking "what they lost in the storm". They can play fun, innovative, and educational games that uplift, make them laugh, or entertain. Also, the flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and help them make choices that work best for them. During student choice times my students can choose a location in the classroom that works for them and allows them to get intouch with their inner peace for learning.
