I am the head boys basketball and track coach in a culturally diverse, rural 8-12 grade high school. Many of our families struggle to make ends meet. Our athletic budget does not include training equipment and we have to search for other funding opportunities to provide the resources we need. As a coaching staff we try to present opportunities to our student athletes to help them succeed and help ensure they can make major gains in off season and be more prepared when the new season hits. The talent and ability is there, we just need to be able to strengthen their skills.
In addition I teach 4 units of World History. Making history meaningful to my students is the only way to help them to see why history matters. I am constantly trying to think of ways to think outside of the box in order to get (and keep) them interested and enhance their learning experience.
