My students come from hardscrabble backgrounds. They move several times a school year due to evictions or family issues and often do not have the basic necessities such as school supplies, clothing and food. Ninety-five percent of these children are on free and reduced lunch and receive assistance during the summer. All are below grade level and are struggling learners. They do not have support at home for academic enrichment and have underdeveloped social skills. Unfortunately, they lack problem-solving techniques. I am confident that with the right support, these children will develop their math skills as well as their social skills and become successful, productive students.
About my class
