My project is to make breakout boxes for my classroom. Breakout boxes are an innovative way to help students review and understand material. They are modeled after escape rooms, and students have to find and solve clues in order to open the box. The box has a series of locks, each one able to be opened by solving a different clue. By creating more of these boxes for my classroom, students will be able to use them more effectively and more often. I look forward to the day when I have enough boxes for each group and we can use them in order to help students achieve higher scores, all while developing their critical thinking skills!
Each box is made up of a toolbox, a smaller lock box inside, three to four different types of locks including a directional lock, a number lock, and a letter lock. Many of the games can be played using invisible ink pens, and students have to use the black light flashlights in order to reveal the clues.
