Students will research and discuss the role of the honeybee as a Pollinator and essential part of our food chain.
Students will create honeybee sculptures towards a larger work that will address the phenomena known as CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder.
Students will use the Sculpture Technique: SUBSTITUTION. Students will learn how to safely mix casting plaster. Students will learn how to construct a plaster one-piece mold. Students will learn how to cast super dough into their mold. Students will learn how to de-mold a cast.
Students will learn how to clean-up their sculpture. Students will construct a honeycomb out of wood to display their 3D honeybees. Students will utilize the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design to enhance their design. Students will exhibit craftsmanship and creativity in completion of their sculpture: details/embellishments and choice of finishing.
