Our school budget has been literally slashed over the past three years and we have had to make drastic decisions regarding spending. I feel that our school struggles daily to try and provide opportunities to our students. We have no real viable PTA to help support a project such as this.
This project would make the library "space" inviting and friendly. My project is for a seating arrangement in our library. Currently, there is no space for students to sit to just take a load off or just chill out and read. As it stands, our school is in an area of town with a very high crime and poverty rate. I am seeking to create a safe space here in the library. Many of my students sleep in different homes, live with grandparents or aunts and uncles or may be on the verge of being homeless. By creating a positive and inviting space in the library, students can feel safe and secure.
