Teamwork makes the dream work. This is a phrase my students bring to life the moment they enter the door to our classroom. We work hard together, fail together, succeed together, and LEARN together. Our classroom community is incredibly important to these students. Despite the poverty and violence that surrounds them, they value their education and the opportunities that are given to them. Yet, they need more. At our school, 92% of students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. 40% of our students are English Language Learners, and in my classroom, that percentage rises to 46%. As such, lively, engaging, and authentic resources and activities are imperative to developing literacy amongst all members of our classroom community.
