My students are really smart and are always ready to lean but there are times when an issue comes up and they don't know what to do. Their first instinct is to scream, yell or run out of the class. We need resources for a cool down corner with soft safe spaces and calming, sensory items. We are requesting tree stump seats, sensory balls, sensory glitter storm set and liquid motion timers.
My students have been through so much which is why they're constantly in a fight or flight mode. I want to provide them a safe corner where they can go to when they need a little break, relax and explore ways to calm down. In the cool down corner they will be able to set a timer for five minutes, choose how they are feeling from a chart, choose a calming strategy and practice how to handle stress, anger, anxiety, etc.
