As each year passes, our poor upright pianos become less and less functional in our ever-growing middle school music department. They are all extremely old, out of tune (even with frequent tuning), and hazardous with their sharp edges and multitude of splinters from the deteriorating wood. They now cost more for upkeep than they are worth. Because of this, we are hoping to acquire at least three new electronic keyboards!
Our band, chorus, and orchestra, all use pianos during everyday practice, concert rehearsals, and performances! Having new electronic keyboards would completely change our music program in exciting ways! Our choir would be able to perform pieces with live piano accompaniment playing through the sound system rather than having to sing along to a basic recording. All three ensembles would be able to use the audio playback to provide voice parts for all voices and instruments instead of trying to play every single instrument's part with only two hands. All three of our ensembles would also be able to provide clear audio recordings for at-home practicing for students who are completing school virtually.
Electronic keyboards are also more cost-efficient! After the upfront costs of buying the keyboards and their accessories, there really are no other large costs for upkeep. The keyboards would not need to be tuned multiple times a year like our current upright pianos. They would also be much more portable! Keyboards are easier to transport from classrooms to auditoriums, which means we would not need to have as many keyboards as we do pianos.
To summarize, electronic keyboards are portable, cost-efficient, and would enhance our students' music learning, rehearsals, and performances significantly!
