Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) promotes positive student behavior in the classroom. As an incentive, students in my classroom earn marks for various prosocial behaviors, such as completing classwork, supporting others, demonstrating on-task behavior, perseverance through challenging tasks, etc. This incentive program utilizes positive reinforcement to teach students essential 21st-century life skills such as time management, goal setting, conflict resolution, social-emotional intelligence, and character development. Students can redeem their filled incentive cards for various rewards, including desirable activities, healthy snacks, and fun prizes. As a special education team, we set up regulation stations and a calm down corner to support our students throughout the school day. Our students benefit from access to various tools and support to help them self-regulate, and we will have small stations in our classroom for them to use. These stations will include adaptive seating (bean bags/rugs/yoga mats), organized bins with fidgets and self-calming tools, noise-canceling headphones, books, visuals, and trampolines. This project will help our students self-regulate by assisting them in identifying their emotions and feelings and having access to various tools to use.
