My students are 45+ unique and diverse learners, whose ages span from 3 years old to 11 or 12 years old. Each of my students has a disability (or multiple disabilities) that adversely affect their ability to communicate their wants, needs, thoughts, and ideas. Each one of my students has so much to offer the world and every day in speech therapy we work hard to improve their communication skills because their thoughts matter and their words matter.
We work on receptive language, expressive language, articulation, fluency, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), and pragmatic (social) language through fun and engaging activities. Many of these skills came naturally to their peers, but for my students they are challenging and frustrating and they work unbelievably hard to overcome the challenges every day.
