Design Crafts is all about MAKING. This stamped jewlery project combines hands-on activity with learning about the properties of metals. Incorporating text also allows students to engage in meaning making through a very contemporary art form. Each student will design and make bracelets that express their own interests, identities, and cultures and take away a wearable piece of original art.
This project meets (and exceeds!) the following standards for Design Crafts:
To demonstrate art making skill and craftsmanship, using natural and manmade materials to plan and produce both two-dimensional and three-dimensional craft projects. [NS: VA:Cr1.HS.2I]
VA:Cr1.HS.2I
Shape an artistic investigation of an aspect of present day life using a contemporary practice of art or design.
VA:Cr2.HS.1I
Develop art making skills and techniques while making/designing works of art comparing methods of spontaneous and deliberate design.
VA:Cr2.HS.2I
Explain how traditional and nontraditional materials may impact human health and the environment and demonstrate safe handling of materials, tools, and equipment.
