an iPad for the Occupational Therapy room. Giving my students an iPad will help them thrive in so many ways. The iPad gives a voice to the voiceless. My students have a difficult time expressing their feelings, forming words, and communicating needs/ wants in general. Many of my students are nonverbal, making their school day much more complex as they are trapped in a world of their own. The world for an autistic child is full of imagery, rather than words. On an iPad, my students can create a sentence or even story using a series of images. By doing so, they can communicate with therapists and instructors without frustration. They are also able to engage in educational apps that will create a fun way to reach their goals. Goals for my students include fine motor skills, visual motor skills, sensory regulation, etc. Computers have always provided excellent ways to facilitate learning and communication for children living with autism. Now, with the innovation of the iPad, children with autism have even greater opportunities to improve their communication, motor, and cognitive skills. Overall, helping me attain an iPad for my therapy room will allow me to step into the world of my students. It will allow me to take their abilities and build on them every single day, giving them the opportunity to be have their voice heard.
