My second graders are highly inquisitive, motivated learners attending a school of nearly 700 students. Tremendous reading progress is typically achieved during the second grade year with the students showing great pride in going from emergent readers to independent, fluent readers. We explore a variety of literary genres, and a love for reading and books is cultivated. We enjoy celebrating our reading fluency in performing reader's theater for other classes and our parents. Science/nature experiences are a highlight of our learning whether we are creating solar system models, planting seed cups and keeping plant logs, or observing live Monarch caterpillars turn into butterflies and tadpoles become frogs. Learning is always taking place in an engaging, hands-on way in our classroom!
