I teach transitional kindergarten in a Title 1 school where over 90% of the children qualify for free lunches. In addition, approximately 80% of my students are English Language Learners. Most of my students come to me with very little knowledge/experiences with mathematical and literacy concepts and thinking. Even simple concepts, such as counting and one-to-one correspondence, or basic ABC knowledge are missing or poorly developed.
