My school houses 650 PreK students. We are a Title I school, which means that most of our students qualify for free-or-reduced lunch. We also serve a large population of students with special needs. At ages 3 and 4, our students are experiencing a formal education setting for the first time, and they are amazing! We work hard to create meaningful, real-world opportunities for these youngest of learners. Our students LOVE books, and we give books to families at our monthly IMPACT nights and other special events to help them begin to build those critical home libraries. The look on a child's face when he or she leaves the library with a book is something not soon forgotten. They are eager and enthusiastic pre-readers.
