Our inner-city school has 85%+ students on free and reduced price lunch. Our students are diverse--with more than 22% of them learning English as a second language. They are hungry for books to read to improved their literacy and their fluency. My brightest AP students need to read frequently to ready them for their next year as they pursue their undergraduate degrees. My ninth graders desperately need to build their reading habits now since they have lagged behind their peers in both background knowledge and reading speed and fluency. These students need the resources they don't have in their homes--books.
