My students attend the "city" school in a small North Carolina town. We are a low income middle school and the students are as academically diverse as they are culturally and socially. My students consist of the entire student body, over 500 students, and my classroom is the library.
Middle schoolers are known for their wide range of characteristics and behaviors. Their needs vary just as much as their personalities. However, they do share one common need, the need to move. The movement might be a way to use up some excess energy or it could just as easily be a way to provide energy. Either way, they need many opportunities during the day to move and be physically active, even in the library.
