I teach all our 8th graders in either Comprehensive Science 3 or Physical Science Honors at my school. All our students are required to take our statewide FCAT assessment test in April. The test covers materials from grade 5-8 so it is a huge task for me to make sure that all the students are ready for the test. The best and most effective way to teach Science is through hands on learning with Science labs and activities. We use items like aluminum foil, zip lock bags, play dough, washers, string, paper towels, vinegar, baking soda, Alka-Seltzer, ping pong balls, aluminum trays, marbles, pool noodles, magnets, pipe cleaners, coffee filters and lots more everyday materials. Many of the tools in my classroom are old and damaged. I would like to purchase new tools and items to help the students with their labs.
