My 7th and 8th graders have had quite the ordeal in the past two years. By navigating and witnessing the overwhelming burden on their families and themselves from Covid, political culture, financial hardships, societal movements, and losing the loss of their innocence by taking care of siblings while directing their own virtual schooling, they have endured a lot during the time that should be "the best time of their lives." The power of this project and getting to read so many stories that share characters' experiences with their own trivial experiences will be inspirational to my students who are preparing for their next journey into looking forward to applying to high schools. I want them to feel motivated and inspired to achieve their goals, no matter what circumstances they have had to endure. They need to remember that they are our future and they matter!
