My Pre-K students come to me eager to learn new things. They are like little sponges ready to soak it all in. Since we are the first actual grade in the school system I am setting the foundation for their future school career. The main goal in the beginning is for them to learn social skills; sharing, cooperation, and empathy. Another goal is for them to learn beginning literacy and math skills. I feel Learning Centers are a great way to supplement the teaching of all of these life and cognitive skills. The donation of a Circle Time Chart will be such a good attention-getting manipulative to support the teaching of several life skills all at one time. We gather together at the "Big Rug" every morning to get our day started to discuss; the calendar, weather, seasons, shapes, our letter of the week, and the new number. I am in need of a new system for doing this. Also, my kids need new manipulatives for centers. This is a very important time of our day and they love center time. They are very sad when our day gets interrupted with outside activities and we don't have time for them. The centers can assist in teaching so many of the skills in a fun and exciting way, as I said earlier, both with the social aspects, and with literacy and math. Many of our centers teach STEAM also. My kids will love all of these new things!
