Flexible seating is an option I want my students to have in my classroom. It helps students to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. I've found that some benefits of flexible seating include using up excess energy, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength. It's no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
I want my students to have a choice in how they learn and to choose what works best for them. They can have the opportunity to sit in a variety of ways including WOBBLE chairs, balance balls, stability cushions, and stools. Although they will still have the option, not all students can sit in chairs at desks and tables all day long. After all, it's all about the students and their needs!
