The students in my Kindergarten classroom are from six different cultures and speak five different languages. I have students that speak Spanish, Vietmanese, Arabic, Mbai, and English. The majority of the students in my classroom and our school are English Language learners. Many of my students are stepping into the classroom setting for the very first time. They are so excited to be in school and are ready to tackle a second language. They are sponges that are ready to learn. Our school is a building that is over one hundred years old and in the middle of a very economically poor community. The community is poor in financial resources but very rich in culture.
