Reading is such an important skill for students to master as they go through school. The materials I have requested will allow me to assess my students' reading levels, work to increase their reading fluency and comprehension, and increase their personal vocabulary. While standardized tests are used each year to assess a student's level of skills, I do not want to teach to the test. Instead, I want my students to have a solid foundation in their literacy skills as they enter middle school and are thrust into their first year of a secondary education, where they are given an increasing amount of responsibility for their own educational pursuits each year.
I want the classroom experience to be interactive. I have requested a document camera to allow students to review their work and thought processes by showing their work to the class in real time. I have also requested the Flocabulary subscriptions and the Building Fluency cards so that my co-teacher and I can provide the extra help and resources to students who need them during our skills development time and after school.
