I want my students to be exposed to more non-fiction and expository texts, and I believe Time for Kids will do the trick! I would love to add this to my small group literacy rotations during the week. I really think my students will be able to learn so much from this resource and will be able to relate to the articles. They will be able to potentially create real life connections to people and places around the world and stay up to date with issues going on in our own country. It will also help to build more background knowledge and higher level vocabulary, which are important skills for a 5th grader to have.
