Research shows that the *number one* way to improve one's reading skills is .... to read! When students - regardless of their age/gender/socioeconomic status/disability status -read a wide range of texts, they are far more likely to demonstrate growth in all academic areas.
It is critical for classroom libraries to offer a varied selection of texts for students to choose from and read on their own time. When students have choices, they are more likely to find a book that they WANT to read - and ENJOY reading.
My goal is to stock my classroom library with a range of texts, to hook all of my students into reading - even the reluctant or self-proclaimed "non-readers."
