In Kindergarten, we tell stories, we read stories, we sing stories, and we make up our own stories. Favorite books, fairy tales, and imaginary adventures are told and retold, becoming an important part of our shared experience. Through stories, we learn about different cultures, explore cause and effect, and feel empathy with the characters we have grown to love.
The puppet theater will provide an exciting and engaging way for all of my students to bring stories to life, while developing their ability to remember details, sequence events, and use new vocabulary. They will gain confidence as they perform for each other, for other classes, and for their families and other guests. They will also learn to take turns, to listen to each other, to create cooperatively and to show appreciation for one another. The puppet theater even has whiteboard space for them to write the title of their show, name the cast, or announce showtimes!
I know my young students have many stories to share, and I look forward to seeing the creative ways they will use puppets and a performing space in our classroom!
