The current trend in educational learning environments (aka the classroom) is flexible seating and the incorporation of dynamic movement. I have explored the research and I decided to implement these components in my classroom in phases. Phase 1 included evaluating our learning activities and how we could restructure our day to give more opportunities for movement as well as utilize what we already had to provide flexible seating and redefine our learning spaces. I am now at Phase 2. I would like to add some seating options that would give my students an outlet for movement to keep their brains engaged.
Ergonomic scientist Dieter Breithecker says 鈥渟tatic-passive sitting and a lack of physical activity during lessons leaves the neuromuscular system unchallenged and leads to degeneration.鈥 According to Breithecker, 鈥淸a] child鈥檚 healthy brain will signal its need for a dynamic load shifts unconsciously by rocking or figeting on conventional chairs,鈥 and therefore recommends alternatives for seating and students being allowed to move about. With this thought in mind, I have come to 星空传媒.org to present my project to obtain 6 鈥渨obble seats鈥 as part of Phase 2. These seats will be at my small group teaching table, but will also be available to students to use at their own desk when they are not in use at the teaching table. The wobble chairs will move under the student鈥檚 body, working their core muscles, as well as giving them motion, and helping them stay engaged with their learning.
