The books I'm requesting will help my book club members start building their own personal libraries. At our last book club meeting of the year, my students will each choose two from the variety of books I'm requesting. The donations will help my students understand the power and freedom that reading can help provide, and show them how meaningful a personal library of books can be. Building a personal library will allow my students to learn to have pride in their enjoyment of reading rather than view it as something to hide. The thrill of owning books that they choose could change the rest of their lives; that's the power that books hold.
