Every week for the past two years my students have participated in the Behavior Basics curriculum created by Autism Adventures. They focus on one social skill every week and develop and practice skills that will teach them the targeted skill. The "Behavior Basics Book Club" is a teacher made curriculum that connects BOOKS to learning about each social skill. I am requesting forty-nine different picture books including Waiting, The Most Magnificent Thing, and The Conversation Train.
My project, if funded, would provide my students with a book for each social skill so they can use their knowledge about the social skills, connect with the characters in the book, and develop close reading skills that will not only further their ability to grasp the targeted skill, but develop stronger reading skills.
Each week, students would be provided a targeted social skill and a book that directly relates to the skill. They will have daily activities that connect the skill to the book that will allow them dig deep into their learning and work with literature while developing their social skills.
