The students at my school face so many challenges. Most come from broken homes, foster care, impoverished living conditions, and streets plagued with drugs and crime. We use PBIS (positive behavior incentive support) to reward hard work and good behavior, motivating students to always put forth their best effort. This has been so successful that our school was able to come out of turnaround status this year (being in the lowest 5% of all MD schools) and students have made significant social and academic growth. Our students have worked incredibly hard all year, through many challenges, to achieve this goal.
