The math workshop model of instruction is an approach that enables the teacher to work with students in small groups at least twice a week. The reality of education today is that all students in the classroom are not at the same level of mastery. Meeting with them in smaller groups gives the teacher the opportunity to tailor instruction, based on data, that better suits the needs of the individual students. It gives the teacher the ability to give everyone what they need instead of the outdated "one size fits all" approach to education. To do this effectively, teachers need to plan for groups or centers that maintain student interest, while stretching their abilities.
