My students are Pre-K/EC and their age ranges from 3-5. The class is blended with children with different types of special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, fine and gross motor delays, Speech Delay, and other Disorders). All of the students have some type of language and communication deficits. The students have difficulty understanding language and communicating their wants and needs. We use several augmentative communication devices, sign language to communicate, and picture symbols. The school is a Title 1 school, which means 100% of the students are on free lunch. Most of the parents are single parents, which leaves little money to help with materials needed in the classroom.
