Students had to adjust to the new normal of school the previous year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of these students have sensory needs and are in need of a safe space to regulate. My goal in the 2021-22 school year is to have that safe space in our classroom. Students will have the opportunity to use these tools throughout the school day to learn about the emotions they are feeling and what they need to help them to self regulate. These tools include books explaining emotions they may be feeling, what strategies they can use, and how to refocus their learning to continue their school day. The calm corner will be a separate space that gives my students any tools they need.
