Technology has made a lasting impact on our world and has dramatically changed the way we teach in the classroom. I believe teaching students to use this technology in productive and effective ways, not to overpower but to supplement exploratory and hands-on learning is where this next generation of learners will truly thrive. Through funding my class with this iPad I hope to do just that.
With this project, I seek to utilize the iPad with my students, to work with them to explore different modalities of learning, engage them in classroom content, and to overall contribute to their excitement about learning. There are so many engaging and enriching apps that can be utilized with the iPad. Splashtop is an app which allows for remote access to the computer desktop which I will use to read articles and practice finding evidence for text dependent questions. The iPad can be utilized in our weekly Math Centers where the students work in small groups to complete various tasks. Research projects by use of QR codes and direct access to critical information are another great way to use the iPad in the class. Most of all I think the iPad would facilitate collaborative learning groups where students desire to participate and feel involved. I hope to explore many more applications for the iPad and how it can address the classroom needs.
I will encourage my students to use the iPad and technology as a tool. They will of course participate in hand-on experiments and learn to write with pencils and paper. However, I see the great advantage of having a classroom iPad to take their hands-on learning to the next step. Our students are highly engaged when we can tap into the resources they take interest in.
