By having access to iPad technology the students will have the opportunity to develop their technology skills, phonemic awareness and mathematical understanding.
For many of my students they do not have the means to have access to technology at home. They are required to show their knowledge on a computer or tablet version of an assessment twice a year. Many of them have the academic skill set needed to show proficiency, but they do have the technology understanding to do well on the assessment. By giving them the opportunity to use iPads more frequently in the classroom, they would develop those technology skills and be better prepared to show all they know on the assessment.
Not only would the iPads help build their technology skills it would also provide students who are in tier 2 and 3 interventions with differentiated instruction. For many of them seeing and hearing the topic in a different way may be the key to their success.
