In my time as a teacher, one of the greatest lessons I've learned is the importance of culture and community building and that starts with the classroom! One way I plan to confront some of the challenges my students faced when coming to school is by creating a warm and welcoming classroom.
I want my classroom to be a comfortable environment where my students feel safe to take risks in their learning. To do this I want to furnish my classroom in a way that makes it feel homier with a cozy rug for classroom meetings and open circles, comfy floor seats, and bean bag chairs.
My goal is to have more flexible seating for students during independent and group work time. By giving my students more ownership of their learning I hope to create more engagement across all subjects and by doing so, this makes students more comfortable in their learning environment.
Through these efforts and donations, I'm hoping to create a classroom that students can be proud of and excited to go to every day. Building relationships with my students and having them feel safe and cared for is my first priority come September and throughout the year and I believe the classroom is where it starts!
