My quote: "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think." Thanks, Socrates. After 18 years of teaching, this quote is how I lead every day. The best gift I can share with my students is that they have the power to be great thinkers. Fairmount is a school with 64% free and reduced lunch. At last count, we have families from 27 different countries attending our school.
The students at Fairmount are some of the kindest and most accepting students I've ever worked with. These students know that our school is their home away from home and feel secure and safe when taking risks. When a fellow peer makes a mistake, we support and celebrate those who take chances. Many of my students do not have access to books outside of school but they WANT to read and connect to texts. Over half of my class is not on grade level and access to rich literature is the ONLY way to make this happen!
