My Music students at Hamline Elementary come from Chicago's Back-of-the-Yards neighborhood where they need safe, supportive spaces wherever they can get them. We strive to inspire strong leaders who are honorable, accountable, hard-working, kind, and scholarly. I am lucky enough to work with all students grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, and I aim to foster those qualities through quality Music education. Overall, I work with a total of approximately 250 amazing students between 2 classrooms on developing a wide variety of musical skills. Many of my students have been affected by all sorts of trauma, including the gang activity and violence that they witness regularly. Many are English language learners, and most come from low-income families. A quality Music education with as many meaningful musical experiences as possible can help them to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and in life in general.
