Within the last few years, my courses acquired DSLR cameras and iMacs to use for the creation of films. The cameras work well and the iMacs provide exceptional editing capabilities. However, when my students are out filming, they require additional equipment to be successful.
Using shoulder rigs to acquire steady tracking shots, recording clear audio with the help of shotgun mics and tascam audio recorders and a lighting kit to make it all appear beautifully in front of the camera is the difference my students need in their films. Many of my students look to pursue careers in the field of digital media. Their ideas are often exceptional, but they feel inexperienced with the equipment that college students are currently using. I don't want them to feel that they are not as capable as other students that come from more affluent communities. I'm hoping that the addition of this equipment will help them realize that they are just as capable.
