Gifted as defined by the No Child Left Behind legislation-
The term "gifted and talented", ...students who give evidence of high achievement capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields, and who need services or activities not ordinarily provided by the school in order to fully develop those capabilities.
My students are recognized as gifted and are provided services through a program offered in our middle schools. We offer enrichment and challenge beyond the regular content classes. They are out of the box thinkers, creative problem solvers, that need these challenges to reach the next level. This maker space will offer an opportunity for my students to explore a variety of interests that they might not have known about.
All to often special programs are being cut from schools due to not enough funding. We want to grow our gifted program.
