I believe that the ability to collaborate and work effectively within a group or team is one of the most important skills a primary student can learn. My current classroom seating (individual desks and chairs) does not allow for easy collaboration between students. The desks are old, take up a ton of space and make it very difficult for students to work in groups. Often times, my students must move to the floor to work in groups effectively.
Switching my classroom seating to tables would promote effective teamwork and collaboration among my students during a variety of deeper learning projects. Additionally, tables would take up less space in my classroom and would be much easier to keep clean and tidy. Tables would also allow for a variety of flexible seating options (stability balls, stools, etc.) to be used to increase student engagement.
