Our safe and welcoming space is ready for the year. I have used Reggio-Inspired decorating to make our new space feel like a home away from home.
I teach kindergarten and made space in our room for play materials such as a wooden kitchen set and wooden block station.
We also utilize flexible seating in our room. This year students can choose from Ikea kid's poang chairs, floor cushions, Montessori-like floor rugs and scoop rockers. We have soft rugs in gentle colors.
This year I took down all the colorful and potentially overstimulating materials in the room. Our room is now mostly empty as we will "decorate" it together over time. Currently our walls are burlap with accents of black and grey. Our classroom furniture is wood with these same accents. We have natural materials (ie corks, wooden spools and cubes) mixed in with typical classroom manipulatives for math time. Welcome to our humble classroom community!
