My students are strong, resilient, curious and passionate learners. Our school is located in a low-income community that has not previously been afforded the supports and resources necessary for my students' success. My school seeks to establish a culture of excellence and empower students to be advocates for change within their own communities. My classroom of Diverse Learners who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities engage best when given extensive visual and tactile support. Embedded within my students' curriculum is an emphasis on life-skills and communication. My students are learning to advocate for themselves and become more and more independent each and every day.
