鈥淒o you have a pencil?鈥 鈥淐an I borrow a highlighter?鈥 鈥淲here is my . . .?鈥 It is not uncommon to hear students calling out these requests during class. Due to on-going, significant budget cuts, my school is not able to provide basic classroom supplies. My project would purchase 3-ring binders, pens, pencils, highlighters, and post-it notes for my students. This project will provide every student with an annotation toolkit that includes writing utensils, highlighters, and post-it notes in a sealed bag. Students will use these tools as we develop close reading, annotation, and analysis skills with a variety of texts, including their independent reading books. The 3-ring binders will be used for student portfolios, which allow students to organize all class resources鈥 and maintain copies of their work. This will help students learn organization skills, while also allowing them to monitor their progress toward the academic standards. Your donation will allow me to provide these basic supplies to all of my students without placing a financial burden on their families.
