The sound of success is the repetitive "click" of a jump rope rhythmically hitting the ground or of a ball bouncing to a beat. But better than that is the laughter of children that accompanies these sounds. The laughter of a first or second grader having success at jumping rope multiple time or learning to dribble down the court .
The goal of our physical education program is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity (SHAPE America).
The physically literate first and second grader jumps a self turned rope consecutively and dribbles a ball demonstrating control down the court. These are hard skills to teach during this remote learning season when a third of the students do not have this equipment at home. In my opinion these are staples all children should have for a lifetime of physical activity and I need to provide them to teach these skills.
